Ceramic bakeware is non-reactive, heats up gradually and stays warm even after cooking – making it perfect for cooking dishes such as casseroles and pies. This type of bakeware is made out of clay that has been shaped and fired at a high temperature and finished with an enamel glaze to resist sticking, chips, scratches and stains. Ceramic dishes can come in a number of colours and can feature hand or machine printed patterns, making them attractive pieces to transfer from the oven to the table.
Most ceramic bakeware is safe for use in the dishwasher, however hand washing is recommended to prolong the life if your bakeware.
Silicone bakeware comes in many shapes and sizes. The main reason to choose silicone over traditional metal bakeware is its ability to bend and fold into shape. Its flexibility allows baked goods to be easily removed and the mould to be easily folded and stored into small spaces – perfect for homes with limited storage.
Most silicone bakeware is safe for use in the dishwasher, however handwashing with soap, water and a soft sponge might be necessary to remove any food that may be stuck in the moulds.
Ceramic and stoneware homewares are hard-bodied clay products that have gone through a shaping and firing process to make them food-safe and in most cases, suitable for the microwave and dishwasher.
In most cases, stoneware and porcelain homewares are dishwasher safe though it is best to refer to your cookware packaging or the stamp on the base of your item for suitability.
Plastic kitchenware and homewares are affordable, re-useable and sterile .
Kitchenware: dishwasher-safe
Homewares: wash with damp cloth
Besides being the perfect natural alternative to plastic and metal, wooden homewares also bring a charming rustic feel to your home.
Wash with a damp cloth. Do not submerge in water, leave to dry thoroughly before storing.
Glass homewares can either be machine made or mouth-blown. Machine made glass is usually symmetrical and very durable whereas mouth-blown glass is usually more fragile but has a certain uniqueness not found in machine made glass.
Not all glassware products are safe for the dishwasher – please refer to packaging of item for dishwasher suitability.
For glassware that is not dishwasher-safe, handwash with a soft sponge in soap and warm water.
